When we buy Certified Fair Trade, we are enabling millions of people around the world to continue to live on their land, feed their families, and promote the education of their children. A farmer would describe Fair Trade as one word…hope.

Why Organic?

Rock n Java is committed to bringing you ONLY Certified Organic coffee. This means our coffee beans are grown without the use of chemical pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers that not only pose threats to the crops and the land they’re grown on, but also to the farmers who grow them. An independent, third-party certifying program determines the certification and distinguishes those products that are grown organically from those that are “enhanced” by chemicals.

Instead of using chemicals, organic coffee growers use compost fertilizers made from the mulch of coffee cherries, cattle manure, and inter-planted crops such as fruit and cocoa trees, which produces healthy, natural topsoil. A healthy growing environment ensures a healthy crop, which translates into a tastier cup of coffee.

Organic growers use traps, rival insect species, birds, and literally preen each tree by hand, in order to eliminate pests. It can be labor-intensive, but the rewards are invaluable.

We buy ONLY Certified Organic coffee because it is the right thing to do, because we believe in environmental sustainability, and because we know organically grown coffee not only tastes better, it also helps improve lives.

Teri Webb is the manager of Rock n Java. She enjoys gardening, feeding her hummingbirds, cycling and hiking. Her favorite music is country-rock, and her favorite drink is the Blended Pumpkin Scream.

Chapman Newnum enjoys dancing and whipping up specialty coffee drinks. His favorite drink is a Large Drip Coffee with a shot of Vanilla, Coconut, and a big splash of Soy.

Garrett Lawley enjoys baseball, breakfast burritos, and all types of music. He likes to bring an element of artistry to his coffee making. His favorite drink is a Tall Coconut-Strawberry Italian Cream Soda.

Timothy Brecht enjoys longboarding, WingStop wings, and polka music. He is a former competitive mountain unicyclist. His favorite drink is Raspberry Black Tea with 3 pumps Vanilla, and a splash of Half and Half.

Jessica Costa enjoys painting, home-made mac and cheese, and oldies music. She is also a huge New England Patriots Fan! Her favorite drink is a Soy Iced Chai.

A scientific report form the University of California found that the steam rising from a cup of coffee contains the same amounts of antioxidants as three oranges. The antioxidants are heterocyclic compounds which prevents cancer and heart disease. It’s good for you!

Coffee…bean or berry?

The word “coffee” was at one time a term for wine, but was later used to describe a black drink made from berries of the coffee tree. This black drink replaced wine in many religious ceremonies because it kept the Mohammedans awake and alert during their nightly prayers, so they honored it with the name they had originally given to wine.

In 1970, Van Zant sought a new name. “One Percent” and “The Noble Five” were each considered before the group settled on “Leonard Skinner”, a mocking tribute to a physical-education teacher at Robert E. Lee High School, Leonard Skinner,^[2] who was notorious for strictly enforcing the school’s policy against boys having long hair.^[3]^[4] Rossington dropped out of school, tired of being hassled about his hair.^[5] The more distinctive spelling was adopted before they released their first album. Despite their high-school acrimony, the band developed a friendlier relationship with Skinner in later years, and invited him to introduce them at a concert in the Jacksonville Memorial Coliseum.^[6]

Skinner allowed the band to use a photo of his Leonard Skinner Realty sign for the inside of their third album.^[7] Skinner died on September 20, 2010, at age 77 after a battle with Alzheimer’s disease.^[8]
